Music video channel i-amtv, which showcases independent Asian music, announced that its shows will now be available on Joost.

"We realised there was huge pent up demand for a purely Asian music channel across Asia and now, with our launch on Joost, we can reach Asian audiences worldwide," said Stephen McCormack, i-amtv and Wildwave chief executive officer.

"i-amtv is aimed at young tech-savvy audiences who want to be able to access their music anytime and anywhere, and Joost is the perfect platform for this."

There is a huge potential for Joost in Asia and the company is dedicated to provide Asian viewers with a range of "unique, compelling and entertaining content," said Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, Joost content strategy and acquisition executive vice-president.

Joost is committed to enhancing its global reach by liasing with international, regional and local partners to bring as much distinctive, diverse and innovative content as possible to the platform, he said.

i-amtv on Joost will run as both a video-on-demand service and as a continuous channel providing the best in Asian indie music such as pop, rock, punk, grunge and hip-hop from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

The channel will initially feature music videos and in the future the company has plans to introduce interviews, concerts, documentaries and user-generated content related to indie music.

The channel also intends to make full use of Joost's interactive and community features.

"We are planning a full suite of interactive features such as gig listings, social networking tools and band info widgets. As the channel evolves, we intend to push the boundaries of what's possible on Joost," said Genervie Kam, i-amtv head of music.

i-amtv is also planning further roll outs on other IPTV, mobile phone, broadband Internet, cable TV and YouTube in coming months. – CHOW HOW BAN
